What is Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide?

Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is a carbohydrate molecule that is bio-selective and has water-binding abilities. It stabilizes the microflora of the skin by encouraging the growth of beneficial bacteria.

Benefits of Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide:

Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is a powerful probiotic known to help maintain and support the skin's natural microflora.

The skin is covered with billions of friendly bacteria, fungi and molds (known as saprophytic flora) which are involved in skin metabolism - the secretion of lipases and production of lactic acid. Both are necessary to maintain the pH balance and support the immune system by surface antigens. They (the saprophytic flora) feed on sweat, sebum and dead skin - protecting the body against malicious microorganisms.

Pollution, stress, age, sunlight, extreme temperatures and antibiotics prescription can destroy and inhibit the growth of beneficial flora. These stressors disrupt the balance of the skin microflora and lead to the growth of harmful flora causing skin itch, redness, excess scaling, irritations and infections. Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide helps to rebuild and support the skin microflora by stimulating beneficial microflora and maintaining necessary conditions for the growth of these benign organisms.

Side Effects & Toxicity:

An extremely safe ingredient, alpha-glucan oligosaccharide has no known toxicity in general use and is shown to be non-irritating and suitable for sensitive skin.

Editor’s Note:

Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is a probiotic.  Probiotics have been used by various cultures to improve the digestion of lactose-containing dairy products and in some instances to help control acne.
